The Sioux Indians were known for being aggressive. They didn't like to let people pass through there river so they the people give them large presents. -
Fort Mandan
During the cold winter Lewis and Clark stayed at fort Mandan and kept busy. They would help with trade and hunting. They learned quite a bit from there stay at Fort Mandan. -
Pompey
On this date is when Sacagawea gave birth. She gave birth to a baby boy and named him Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. She would carry him on her back and gave him a nickname, Pompey. -
Shoshone Indians
On their expedition Lewis and Clark found some Shoshone Indian women. They wanted to show them that they would not hurt them so he gave them gifts. When they met the rest of the Shoshone Indians everything was peaceful. When they left they ended up bring a couple of the Indians with them, Sacagawea and her husband. -
Idaho
In Idaho they couldn't continue their journey without horses. So they had to find some Indians that could trade or there expedition would fail. -
Fort Clatsop
Lewis and Clark stayed at Fort Clatsop and made good use of their time preparing for the journey ahead.They stayed in a house with one women and baby and thirty two men. Most of them were suffering from the flu.
