    Carter was a known advocate for civil rights and extremely opposed to racial segregation. Carter ran as a Democrat and nearly beat Gerald Ford.
  • Mount Saint Helen's Erupts

    The most destructive and larges volcanic eruption in American history, this eruption killed 57 people after tourists failed to remove themselves from the park in time.
  • Iran Releases American Hostages

    The Iran hostage crisis negotiations were negotiations in 1980 and 1981 between the United States Government and the Iranian Government where 52 Americans were held hostage after being abducted from the US Embassy in Tehran. The hostages were held for 2 years, being released on the 20th of January 1981.

    Ronald Reagan's Presidency

    Ronald Reagan, known for his "Reaganomics" free-market policies and tax reform, as well as the "Tear Down that Wall" speech.
  • The Beirut Barracks are Bombed

    Two truck bombs ran into buildings in Beirut, Lebanon housing MNF (Multinational Force) troops consisting of Americans and French soldiers. This killed 307 people.
  • The Minivan Car Concept is Unvailed

    Dodge and Plymouth release their new car models, the minivan. This allowed for extra storage without the cost of a full-size van and became a hit among families in the US.
  • The Challenger Crashes

    The Challenger Space shuttle explodes during liftoff, killing all 7 crew members. This is one of the first national tragedies witnessed live on television.
  • Tax Reforms of 1986

    Congress passed the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and was signed into action by Ronald Reagan. These tax cuts simplified tax codes and is considered apart of the "Reagan tax cuts" apart of the "Reaganomics" tactic.
  • "Tear Down this Wall" Speech is Performed

    Ronald Reagan uses the famous line "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." The line was used as a plea for the leader of the Soviet Union to tear down the wall separating East and West Berlin.

    The United States and the USSR reach an agreement to limit intermediate-range nuclear weapons. Tensions were still high after the Red Scares, this treaty gave many American citizens peace of mind.

    George H.W. Bush was known for his "kinder and gentle" nation promises. He promised to reform America and put traditional American family values first.

    Known for his scandal with Monica Lewinsky and his Impeachment, Bill Clinton ran as a democrat. He also is known for negotiating NAFTA.
  • NAFTA is Negotiated

    NAFTA or the North American Free Trade Agreement was an agreement between Mexico, the US, and Canada to help North America become a more competitive global marketplace.
  • The Oklahoma City Bombing

    The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building is bombed on April 19th, 1995 in OKC. 19 children under the age of 6 were killed. The bombing was committed by Timothy McVeigh who was executed in 2001 and his partner Terry Nichols was given life in prison.
  • The Lewinsky Scandal

    Bill Clinton has alleged inappropriate conduct with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Bill Clinton later denied the scandal however later admitted to the accusations.

    Bill Clinton was impeached after his scandal with Monica Lewinsky became known to the public eye, however he was not removed from office.
  • The Columbine Massacre

    Two teenagers committed an atrocity of shooting up Columbine High in Colorado. The two teenagers, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold both committed suicide when the bombs they rigged did not explode. Columbine was the deadliest mass shooting in American History, with 15 people dying including the two shooters and 24 injured. Columbine began an outrage with Anti-gun protestors citing the tragedy as a plea for gun rights reform.

    George Bush's Presidency

    Known for being the President during 9/11 as well as the First President to have father as a President, Bush was the 43rd President of the United States.
  • 9/11

    Four airplanes were hijacked on 9/11. Two planes were crashed into the Twin Towers and one into the Pentagon. The final plane was crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers overpowered the attackers. It is still considered the biggest tragedy in American history.
