Thomas Harriot's writing faithfully captured the area's natural resources, the ways of life of the Native Americans, and their potential to build a successful colony. His writings were published in 1588. -

The 1700's was a burst of intellectual energy in Europe also known as the Enlightment. Many Enllightment thinkers had begun to question about who shold really hold the power in government. -
From Colony to Country
English colonies stretched along the Atlantic coast. Colonies became self-reliant and self-rule was practiced. -
French & Indian War (1759-17630
Britain protected its territory by sending soldiers to fight. France allied with Native American tribes to drive the British out of North America. After their defeat, England brought new militay leaders and made its own allience with Native Americans---the Iroquois. Great Britain claimed all of the North America east of the Mississippi River after its victory. -

Colonies decalred themselves to be "free and idependent."
They fought and defeated one the greatest military powers to turn their declaration into a reality. -
USA was Born
Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson and other colonial thinkers put timeless words to thier "experiment" in the form of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Unites States. The Constitution was accepted and Approved. The United States of America was Born.
