    The supreme court unanimously agreed that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional. This is an important part of the movement because this was the start of the end of segregation in public schools

    Rosa parks and the seat refusal
    Rosa park refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white man. This resulted in Rosa Parks being arrested and launches a bus boycott.
  • the University of Mississippi

    the University of Mississippi
    James Meredith became the first Black student to enroll in the university. Riots followed the enrollment causing president kennedy to send 5,000 federal troops. This showed that times were changing and people were going to have to start accepting it.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    200,000 people joined the march on Washington. This is the march that led to the Lincoln memorial to listen to Martin Luther King deliver his "I Have A Dream speech"
  • Civil rights act of 1964

    President Johnson sighs the civil rights act of 1964. This act prohibits discrimination of all kinds based on race, color, religion, or national origin. Allowing federal goverment with the power to enforce desegregation.
  • Voting Rights act of 1965

    Congress passes the Voting right act of 1965 making it easier for southern african americans to register to vote. This is very important because Voting is an amazing thing that many people wish they were able to do.
