French & Indian War

May 28, 1754

War faught by between the French and Indians against the British over part of Pennslyvania and Ohio. Great Britain won the war but demanded that the colonists pay the war reparations.

Stamp Act

Mar 22, 1765

Placed tax on newspapers, legal documents, books, and even playing cards. The colonists protested until the Stamp Act was repealed.

Boston Tea Party

Dec 16, 1773

Result of the Townshend Act.

First Continential Congress

Sep 5, 1774

Group met in Mass. to discuss relations with Great Briatin. Results: Embargo and Boycott on the British

Second Continential Congress

May 10, 1775

Created a central governement and elected John Hancock as the president and George Washington as genrral of the colonial army

Congress passed Lee's proposition

Jul 2, 1776

Richard Henry Lee staed that the colonies should be independent staes from Great Britain. Congress approved July 2nd thus the colonies became independent from Great Britain.

Declaration of Independence

Jul 4, 1776

Congress approved Thomas Jeffersons draft for the Declaration of Indepdence. The DOC had 3 parts: the preamble, a list of basic human rights, and essentially the reasons why the colonists left Great Britain.
