Stamp Act
This act was passed on march 22. England had given a tax on most papers. This act taxed americans for no reason. -
townshend duties
England had imposed duties on america's glass,lead,paint,paper and tea. This is further unnecessary acts put on the americans costing them more money. -
Boston massacre
When the americans rebelled against the townshend duties the soldiers after being pelted with various objects open fire at the americans killing five. This was considered an unnessary and uneven violence by america. -
Tea Act
This gave the East India Tea Company the ablity to export tea directly. This caused much damge to American merchants. -
Intolerable Acts
This set three new rules.
1. It allowed certain individuals to be tried in england rather than a local trial.
2.It allowed soldiers to impose on citizens homes without their permission.
3.This made it possible for the king to pick American governors.
These acts created many problems and made it so americans lost some of their most basic rights -
First Continental Congress
This was when America sent a message to King George III, stating that they were loyal, but they would stop trading with england until they were allowed to govern themselves.
This was americas first act to break free from england -
Lexington and concord
The british sent 700 soldiers to concord and luxington to sieze arms. They were ambushed by colonial militia and someone shot causeing the british to open fire. This caused a battle between the american and british.
This caused more fueds with european countries. -
Second continental congress
All colonies came together and created an army led by George Washington. This was the preparations for america's seperation from europe. -
"Common Sense" by Tom Paine was published
In this famous book it stated that King GeorgeIII was a tyrant and that America should seperate from england.
This was further motivation provided to America to separate from europe -
July 2nd
This was the day that Congress had taken the words of Richard Henry Lee which stated that, "these United Colonies are, and ought to be free and independent states."
This was when it was truley agreed upon that America should break off from Europe.
