  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 restricted the colonists movement to the frontier. This proclamation reduced salutary neglect and angered the colonists.

  • Sugar Act

    A tax passed by the English Parlament that taxed imported molasses. The tax was made without the representation of the American colonists. A defense of the act was made by saying that the colonist were represented by virtual reprsentation. This act along with the Stamp Act reduced salutary neglect and angered the colonists.

  • The Currency Act

    The Currency Act stopped the use of paper currency that was need due to the lack of gold and silver in the colonies. Another part of the act gave more power to the British Navy to have a hearing that would be “favorable to the British.” This is one example of British mercantilism.

  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was an act that taxed animal skin that could be written on and parchment. The purpose of this act was to reduce the debt of England by taxing the colonist to support the British troops in colonies. Like the Sugar Act the colonist did not like it due to not being properly represented in the British Parliament.     The Massachusetts Circular Letter was a letter written by Samuel Adams that was sent to different colonies. The letter opposed taxes by England and gave direction for colonies to oppose the Townshend Acts
