Buying Alaska
In 1867, The United States purchased buying Alaska for 7.2 million dollars. This purchase would double the size of the U.S, and give it access to the Pacific ocean. Both parties from Russia and the United States agreed doing this. Now the United States would have an extra 600,000 square miles added to their territory. On April 9, the Senate approved the treaty of buying Alaska, and on May 28, President Andrew Johnson signed the treaty also. -
The Great Chicago Fire
The Great Chicago Fire, happened on October 8-10, 1871. The fire killed almost 300 people, destroyed over 17,000 homes, and left over 100,000 people homeless. The fire was started in a barn, and started to spread due to strong winds, wooden buildings, and drought conditions. The fire was destroying everything, and after the fire, it took over 2 years to build everything again. -

There were over 1500 passengers and crew mates who didn't make it off the boat. The Titanic took a couple of hours to fully be underwater. -

The boat sunk 50 meters, (160 feet) under the water.
