  • The 13th Amendment

    The 13th Amendment
    This Amendment was to end slavery or involuntary work and free African Americans. It still let people be cruel and unusual to African Americans or from people using them by coercing them into bad contracts.
  • The 14th Amendment

    The 14th Amendment
    It was a guarantee of rights and security for African Americans and blacks who were born as U.S. citizens. The people still had failed to protect the African Americans. The people that were supposed to be protecting them were against them.
  • The 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment
    The 15th Amendment states that it is illegal to stop people from voting based on their race. States could require voters to pass literacy tests or pay poll taxes, difficult tasks for the formerly enslaved, who had little education or money.
  • The Third Enforcement Act

    The Third Enforcement Act
    The KKK activities were outlawed. empowered the president to use the armed forces to combat against the KKK. They were still beating, killing, and assassinating any blacks and/or whites who did not support them. They went to war and lost.
  • The First Enforcement Act

    The First Enforcement Act
    This law made is a crime to interfere or try to stop someone from voting based on their race. Members of the KKK terrorized the African Americans trying to get them to vote.
  • The Second Enforcement Act

    The Second Enforcement Act
    Federal elections had to be under supervision of federal Marshals. People were still being terrorized. The federal Marshals could watch the elections but would not help the people.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1875

    Civil Rights Act of 1875
    It was a crime to deny full and equal use of public spaces based on race. It was also illegal to discriminate based on race during jury selection. This however did not stop segregation.
