13th Amendment
This law forbid slavery and any involuntary servitude across the US, which gave African Americans freedom. An unintended consequence caused by this is the Freedmen's Bureau. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment granted citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the United States. This included African Americans which provided equal protection under the laws, giving them freedom. A good consequence was it granted citizenship to formerly enslaved people. -
15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment granted African American men the right to vote. An unintended consequence of this was it caused women to feel betrayed since they couldn't vote. -
The 1st Enforcement Act
This act prohibited people from banding together with the intention of creating violence and intimidation. A good consequence of this act was it worked against the KKK and helped African Americans from being attacked. -
The 2nd Enforcement Act
The 2nd Enforcement Act placed administration of national elections under the control of the federal government and empowered federal judges and United States marshals to supervise local polling places. An unintended consequence of this was that African Americans started voting more because of this and they weren't in any harm or under intimidation when they went to the polling places. -
The 3rd Enforcement Act
The 3rd Enforcement Act put a stop to white supremacist terrorism by the KKK by empowering the president to use the armed forces against those who conspired to deny equal protection of the laws. A good consequence was this helped the violence against African Americans. It banned a host of private conspiracies in which the Klan engaged, and it allowed federal judges to keep Klan conspirators off juries. -
Civil Rights Act of 1875
This bill guarantees African Americans equal treatment in public transportation and public accommodations and service on juries. A good consequence is that this bill forbids discrimination in public accommodations.
