  • 13th amendment

    13th amendment
    This amendment ended slavery/involuntary servitude. An unintended consequence of this was the freedman's bureau.
  • 14th amendment

    14th amendment
    constitutional rights to anyone born in the US. The clauses of the amendment were not enforced by the Supreme Court consistently.
  • Ku Klux Klan act

    Ku Klux Klan act
    This outlawed the activities of the KKK. One unintended consequence of this was there was no way to fully enforce this everywhere at all times.
  • Voting act

    Voting act
    This made it a crime to interfere with citizen's rights to vote. One unintended consequence of this was people still did it, illegally.
  • federal marshal act

    federal marshal act
    This stated all federal elections must be under the supervision of federal marshals. One unintended consequence of this was it took up a lot of the federal marshals' time.
  • 15th amendment

    15th amendment
    Illegal to stop anyone from voting. The Fifteenth Amendment had a loophole; it did not grant suffrage to all men, but only prohibited discrimination on the basis of race
  • Civil Rights Act of 1875

    Civil Rights Act of 1875
    This stated it was a crime to deny full and equal use of public places, and that it is illegal to discriminate based on race during jury selection. One unintended consequence was they were still kept in separate areas and they would claim they were equal areas.
