Founding of the Church
The church was officially organized in Fayette, New York. Joseph Smith and a few followers gathered to form the church after the translation of the Book of Mormon. -
Death of Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith was killed by a mob in Carthage, Illinois. This event marked a significant turning point as it led to leadership succession disputes. Many of his followers considered it a test of faith. -

After Smith’s death, Brigham Young led the majority of Mormons to the Salt Lake Valley (present-day Utah) to escape religious persecution. -
End of Polygamy
The LDS Church officially discontinued the practice of polygamy due to pressure from the U.S. government. -

The Church gained statehood for Utah in 1896. -
Revelation on Priesthood
The church’s leadership received a revelation that allowed Black men to hold the priesthood, which had previously been restricted.
