Fair Employment Bill
InformationThe first Fair Employment Practices Bill is introduced in New Mexico by Senator Dennis Chavez. The bill prohibits discrimination by race, religion, or nation of origin. Unfortunately, the bill fails. (However, it is able to set the stage for the Civil Rights Act in 1964.) -
WW II Benefits
InformationLatino veterans come home from fighting in World War 2. They are able to use their benefits from the war to get education and housing. Additionally, Mexican-American parents sue California schools because of the segregation of Latino students. The court votes in favor of the parents in the Mendez v. Westminster case. This case precedes the 1954 case of Brown v. Board of Education. -
Hernandez v. Texas Case
The Hernandez v. Texas case successfully eliminates class and ethnic discrimination.

Reauthorization of Voting Rights Act
The Voting Rights Act is reauthorized by President George W. Bush, and is named the “Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, and Cesar Chavez Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006”
