In 1979 Soviet troops landed in Afghanistan saying that they did not invade, but they were invited over by the Amin government. The Soviets killed Amin and replaced him with Babrak Kamal. Babrak need Russian military support to stay in power because many Afghan soldiers joined the Mujahdeen which was a guerrilla group fighting the Soviets. The U.S. knew that Soviet Union has gotten themeselves into their own Vietnam war. -

In the summer of 1982 the U.S. was drawn into military involvement in Lebanon. Reagan sent 800 U.S. marines in August 1982 as part of a multinational peacekeeping force. A civil war broke out and the U.S. was in the middle of it. The U.S. troops were attacked a couple of times and Reagan had no choice, but to attack back. -

Osama Bin Laden - Barack Obama
Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was finnally found and killed by group of Navy Seals. The raid on bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, was launched from Afghanistan. After the raid, U.S. forces took bin Laden's body to Afghanistan for identification, then buried it at sea within 24 hours of his death. Al-Qaeda confimed the death on May 6 with posts made on militant websites, vowing to avenge the killing.
