Received full membership to the "Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association",
(PRCA). Finished 16th in the bull riding standings.
Named "Rookie-of-the-Year" Runner-up for bull riding in the PRCA.

Won the "Tough Luck" Award for his bone-jarring, but unsuccessful rides
in the "Super Bull" Competition in Del Rio, Tx. -

First year qualified for National Finals Rodeo. Rode 5 out of 10 bulls at the Finals.
Finished 9th in the World Standings and 5th in NFR earnings. Lane qualified for the Finals every year now until his death. He would also
be one of the top 15 bull riders for 5 consecutive years until his death. -
Gettin Better
Won the "Super Bull" Competition in Del Rio, Tx.
Became a member of the "Winston Tour Rodeo", that showcased the top competitors.
Finished 3rd in World Standings at the Finals, and 2nd in NFR earnings.
Rode 8 out of 10 bulls at the Finals. -

"Winston Tour" Bull Riding Champion Runner-up. Co-champion in the "Super
Bull" Competition. Competed in the "World’s Toughest Rodeo" in Oklahoma City.
At the Finals, finished 3rd in World Standings and was 1st in NFR earnings.
Rode 9 out of 10 bulls at the Finals. -
A life long Dream
Won the bull riding in "Pendleton Round-Up" even though he broke his collarbone
a month earlier. Won the Texas Circuit Bull Riding Championship.
Won the World Championship at the National Finals Rodeo, a life-long dream.
Placed 2nd in NFR earnings, and rode 8 out of 10 bulls. -
Champ vs Champ
Competed in the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. Won the bronze medal. The
US Team won the gold. (This was the only time rodeo was in the Olympics.)
Competed in the "Challenge of the Champions" a 7-event match-up with Red Rock, the
1987 World Champion bucking bull. Red Rock had not been ridden in 309 tries.
Lane won the match-up, riding Red Rock 4 out of 7 times.
Competed in Hawaii at an event that featured unridden bulls. Lane rode his bull.

The end of a great man and sportsman
Helped organize "Bullmania, A Tribute to Freckles Brown" a bull riding event
named for his good friend & teacher Freckles Brown, who is buried across from Lane.
Competed in "Cheyenne Frontier Days" on July 30, 1989 and
was killed by the bull, named "Takin' Care of Business", after his dismount.
