    The nuclear arms race was between both the USSR and the U.S.A, this involved both sides developing nuclear weapons, so that no side could have the upper hand, this lead into each side sending spies to collect information on there progresses. This is a significant event due to big controversy of nuclear bomb hitting either Russia or the U.S.A, even though this did not cary through, it still resulted in worldwide chaos. the USSR reached up to 40,000 number of warheads in 1985.

    the space race, was a competition between both the usa and ussr for the supremacy of space flight capability. this is a significant event because it was truly for the Superior over one another, as each country wanted to deploy these space crafts to gain more power. This resulted in the ussr having the first satellite and man in space but the USA conceding in having the first man to touch foot on the moon.

    the spy plane was driven by francis Garry powers, who was forced to complete the task of flying above the soviet union, and take photos of the USSR expansion, which was then shot down on the 1st of may 1960. this is a significant event due to what happened whilst he was in prison of the USSR, and how the usa got there information through high altitude planes that could take photographs. in addition, what stood out to me was he didn't apply for this job as Gary was directed n told without any say

    John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was the 35th of president when he was assigned in 20th of jan 1961. But two years into being president he was assassinated on the 22nd of November 1963. jkf was a significant character during the period of the cold war, as a president he played a crucial part in fighting against the USSR and their leader Nikita Khrushchev. overall he was a powerful president that could speak well and was remembered gratefully for his service in the cold war

    The Berlin wall was established to keep the east Germany people escaping into west Berlin or west Germany (2.6mil escaped before the wall was established). this was because the east was under the control of communism and the soviet, whilst the west was guided and taken care by the U.S.A as they flew goods in for survival this was known as the marshall plan. this is a significant event because this was the separation of Germany, which each side were in the hands of two different nations.

    checkpoint charlie was a place in friedrichstadt in the heart of berlin, it was where only foreigners and diplomats were able to cross over between eats and west berlin on a maxuim on day visa. checkpoint charlie was also known as the exchange point for spies, as shown in the movie bridges of spies. this is a significant event because there was nearly a conflict by tanks as east and west did not as they were on the verge on having direct conflict with the US tanks.

    the cuban missile crisis was known to be one of the most recognize moment during the period of the cold war, as both the usa and ussr tensions grew due to the missile crisis, it began with the ussr detecting Cuban nuclear sights that were in construction. this event was significant because tension grew in the 13 day period between the 2 superpowers, and also Cuba, as Castro noticed their boarders where becoming affected. as well as many other events linked in with this event like the spy plane

    the denete was a policy to stop the tension between the soviets and the US, this was introduced by the us president richard nixon. this event was significant due to its appearnace, as it was introduced to to prevent a nuclear war between the two, also it only lasted a few years, which was good because the two both had a treaty introduced (SALT), which limited the number of nuclear weapons. overall this played a big part in the cold war, as it prevent the use of nuclear weapons
