  • Labor Union

    After labor strikes began, the first National Union was founded. It is known as the National Labor Union. This labor union sought to improve working conditions.
  • Great Railroad Strike

    In response to the 2nd tax cut, the railroad workers decided to protest. These workers included violence in their protests. As a result of their violent acts, over 100 workers were killed by federeal troops.
  • American Federation of Labor

    In 1886, Samuel Gompers founded the American Federation of Labor. This organization intended on improving wages, working conditions, and working hours.
  • Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike was a railroad strike in the U.S. Factory workers went on strike because of wage cuts and layoffs. In response to this, the workers tore railroad tracks. The president eventually sent 12,000 troops to stop them because he was afraid of not receiving his mail.
  • Anthracite Coal Strike

    United Mineworkers went on strike in 1902. They were on strike in an effort to get higher waves, shorter hours, and recognition of their union.
