La Salle's ambition of exploring takes over, and he sets up an expedition with nine canoes starting in Montreal, Quebec. However, he was ill-prepared for the expedition. They turned back to Montreal two months later without reaching the Ohio river, that he believed would reach China. -
La Salle claims the entire Missisipi Basin
La Salle claims the entire Mississippi Basin for France, naming it Louisville in honor of King Louis. However, the claim extended throughout all the branches of the Mississippi, covering almost all of the USA. -
La Salle journeys back to America
La Salle brings back 300 colonists to make settlements along the Gulf of Mexico. However, the trip turned upside down as it was plagued by pirate attacks, hostile Indians, and poor navigation. One of the supply ships became shipwrecked and some of the colonists killed Indians who had stolen from the wreck, and in doing so guaranteed their demise. They ended up in Texas, where they founded another Fort St. Louis. -
La Salle is Murdered
