The State Security Department, part of the Ministry of People's Defense, was made part of the Interim People's Committee on February 4, 1948. The Korean People's Army was announced four days after the Fourth Session of the People’s Assembly agreed to separate the roles of the military and police, before the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was told on September 9, 1948. The Ministry of State People's Armed Forces was made. -
North Korea crosses 38th paralell
In the early hours of June 25, the North Koreans crossed the 38th parallel behind an artillery barrage. They were ordered by the KPA I Corps, and went across the Imjin River heading toward Seoul. -
President Truman helps South, supports with US naval and air
To stop North Koreans’ artillery and infantry, the US used Sherman and Pershing medium tanks, rocket launchers, artillery pieces, antiaircraft guns, and, close-air-support aircraft. U.S. Marine Corps squadrons, and started on navy light carriers. -

North Korean Army captured Southern Korean capital of Seoul on June 28, 1950. The North Korean Army crossed over the 38th parallel. -

General MacArthur sends troops to North Korea
General MacArthur sent troops to North Korea. He did this without President Truman’s permission; this is also why President Truman fired General MacArthur. China entered the Korean War because the troops were to close for his liking. -
United States crosses 38th paralell
The Republic of Korea Army units crossed the38th parallel on October 1, 1950. U.S. Army units crossed over on October 7, 1950. The ROK I Corps marched up the east coast, getting to Wŏnsan. P’yŏngyang then fell to the U.S. I Corps on October 19, 1950. -
China enters Korean War
China entered the Korean War on October 19, 1950. China allied with North Korea. One of the reasons China entered the Korean War was because General MacArthur got to close for comfort to China. -

When General MacArthur was relieved from his position as general, suspicions arose. The public liked General MacArthur and when he was suddenly fired, it didn’t go over very well. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee looked into the firing and didn’t come up with anything reasons. -
South gets capital back
Previously, North Korea crossed the 38th perimeter and took over Seoul, the capital of South Korea. On March 15, 1951 South Korea took back there capital and drove the Northern Koreans from Seoul. -
President Truman makes a speech
When President Truman relieved General MacArthur of his duty’s his popularity with the public dropped. He spoke a speech to the public to get his popularity back up. -
MacArthur Fired
General Douglas MacArthur was the one of the important Generals during the Korean War. He strategized several attacks on North Korea but was stopped by the Chinese Army. MacArthur was relieved of his duties on April 11, 1951. -

The talk of an Armistice started in Mid-1951. They would talk about the Armistice than they would take a break from discussing it; they weren’t too serious about it yet. When they signed the Armistice in 1953 they had a 5 step plan that the Armistice would follow. -
President Eisenhower elected
President Eisenhower was elected in 1951; President Truman was the president before Eisenhower. President Eisenhower was a general during World War 2 which made him a good president during the Korean War. -
Armistice
The Armistice between South and North Korea occurred on July 27, 1953. The fighting lasted 3 years and still to today isn’t truly resolved.
