North Korea attacks South Korea (start event)
Hoping to unify the Koreas under a single Communist government, the North launched a surprise invasion of South Korea on June 25, 1950. In the following days, the UN Security Council condemned the attack and demanded an immediate withdrawal.
Because Kim Il Sung hoped to join the two Koreas into one communist nation. -

Result: Decisive United Nations victory The Chinese considered allied troops at the Yalu River an act of war and actually sent troops against US forces. After the US prevented that attack China lost interest and the North Koreans surrendered. The 38th parallel was agreed to as the partition between communist North Korea and democratic South Korea and that is how it still stands today. -

Korean Armistice Agreement
The agreement was signed on July 27,1953 and was designed to "insure a complete cessation of hostilities and of all acts of armed force in Korea until a final peaceful settlement is achieved. The signed armistice restored the border between the two nations, created the Korean Demilitarized Zone, put into force a cease-fire, and finalized repatriation of prisoners of war. Both sides pledged not to execute any hostile act from, the demilitarized zone", or enter areas under control of each other.
