Korea Divided
After WWII ended Korea was split into two nations, separated at 38 degrees north latitude. North Korea was made up from the communist and South Korea was made up from non-communist. -
Vietnam Divided
Vietnam had already two governments but they were ruled by France and in WWII they were invaded by Japan, after WWII they fought together to fight the French and the United States. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the Nationalists which he and others founded the Vietminh League. The other government was the Communist Vietnamese. -
USSR and the US Taking the Decisions
War started between North Korea and South Korea, Soviet Union controlled North Korea, and on the other hand United States controlled South Korea. The war started because they couldn’t decide on anything because North Korea wanted to be a Communist country and South Korea didn’t. -
UN Getting Involved
In 1950 the UN got involved in the Korean war, they defended the South Korean side because the members claimed that North Korea was being like Hitler and that South Korea was being attacked. The Un was made of Capitalist countries except for Russia which they boycotted the meeting because they were mad of only choosing the Nationalist China (Taiwan). The UN was bias. -
US Involvement in the Korean War
MacArthur made a surprise attack against North Korea by attacking them from North to South when they were backed against the walls. This shows how much the US was involved in the Korean war and that they wanted to implement that there should not be Communist countries. -
Cease Fire in Korea
The UN and North Korea agreed to cease fire and to divide the territory about the same it was divided before this war started. About 4 million civilians and soldiers died. -
Vietnam Making Their Own Decisions
War starts between Vietnamese Communist and Nationalists vs France and the US. In the Vietnam War the US nor any other country was controlling the country, this were the decisions of the country and not two other countries controlling them. -
US Involvement in the Vietnam War
US president Lyndon informs the congress that the Vietnamese boats had attacked the US destroyers. So the congress accepted that the US could send troops to Vietnam. US involvement was done because they believed that if Vietnam won and became Communist it would make the domino theory that country neighbors would also like to become communist and have chaos. -
UN Not Getting Involved
More than half a million of US soldiers were in Vietnam fighting the war. In the Vietnam War the UN did not get involved in the war and did not help in one or the other side. -
Communists Take Control in Vietnam
The communist took complete control of Vietnam winning vs the Nationalists. The US had to withdraw their soldiers 2 years before because of protests from the US civilians and they failed to contain the communist.
