  • Amir is born

    When Amir starts the novel by mentioning "I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975" (Hosseini 1). (blended quote because the sentence can stand on its own if there was no other phrase connected to it) The year Amir is born is 1963 because that indicated it was 12 years ago. The day Amir was born was the day his mother had died giving birth to him.
  • Hassan repairs his cleft lip

    During the description of Hassan, Amir mentions "And the cleft lip, just left of midline, where the Chinese doll maker's instrument may have slipped, or perhaps he had simply grown tired and careless" (Hosseini 3). (well-blended because it cannot stand alone if the lead in was out) Hassan was born with a cleft lip which is the reason his mother bolted away. The day she gave birth to him, she had took one look at him and left seeing the cleft lip.

  • Hassan's rape and the Kite contest

    The quote "Blocking Hassan's way out of the alley were three boys in a defiant stance: fists curled, legs slightly apart" (Hoosier 70). (blended because the quote can stand alone) Amir and Hassan enter the kite runner ran in which they in. After the race, Assaf comes to Hassan and tries to take the Amir's kite in which Hassan refuses. This causes Assaf to get angry and begins to rape Hassan as punishment.
  • Amir turns 13 years old/ Hassan & Ali leave

    When Ali mentions "'We are leaving, Agha sahib'" (Hosseini 106), it develops an understanding for the readers that there Ali and Hassan will not be staying with them any longer. (blended quote because it can stand alone if the lead-in was gone) The cause for their leaving is because Hassan had mentioned the rape to Ali. Ali was disappointed in Amir for not telling him. Also, Hassan had knew all alone Amir had witnessed the rape and did nothing to help him.

  • Baba buys an old van & Amir helps him load the van

Baba had gotten the car from Amir's old science teacher that sold the car for 550 dollars.

(blended because the quote can stand alone) Although the spring quarter had ended, he had still not been able to speak a word to Soroya. He was scared to say a phrase to her which led to embarrassing himself in front of her. He always ended up acing all of his general education classes.
  • Baba dies of cancer

    After Amir's wedding, "... Soraya and I moved into a one bedroom apartment in Fremont, just a few blocks away from the general..." (Hosseini 180). (well-blended because the quote would not be able to stand alone) Soon enough, they would begin their lives together. Although the death of Baba was horrible, Amir has seen it coming considering the fact cancer would not be curable in time. This brought him to a happy state knowing he was in a better place.
  • Amir and Soraya get married

    When Amir mentions "Nothing you say changes anything. I want us to marry" (Hosseini 165), was when Soraya mentioned her past to her. (blended because it can stand alone) She did not know that Amir would marry her if he knew her terrible past. She was worried her relationship would end it with Amir because he would know the real truth, however he did not mind that. He loved her for who she is now and not what she was before.
  • Mujahadeen are receiving arms from U.S

  • Amir finishes his novel

    Amir wrote, "In the summer of 1988... I finished my first novel" (Hosseini 182). After the Soviets had finally withdrew from Afghanistan, Amir finished his well written novel that he took many years to finish. The novel was a father son story that was written with the typewriter the general had given to Amir. This made him become more successful with his book and brought better function to the actions he took with his book.
  • Amir and Soraya failed to get their baby

    Soraya's parents say "God knows best, bachem. Maybe it wasn't meant to me" (Hosseisi 186). (blended because it can be left alone in a sentence) After trying to conceive a baby since 1989, they were finally officially unsuccessful. Soraya was really sad, however was mostly disappointed in herself. She was so excited to carry her own child, yet it was snatched from her within a few years. This tore her down greatly.

    Amir states "All of you, you bunch of lying goddamn bastards!" (Hosseini 222). (well blended because the quote cannot stand on its own without the lead in) Amir had been told that Hassan and him were brothers before his death. He knew this because of the letter that Hassan had wrote that stated Baba was also his father. This made Amir very angry because he had treated Hassan like crap and never knew that he was his brother. He was living a full blown lie.
  • Rahim tells Amir about the life in Kabul

    Finally, "In the morning, Hassan told me he and Farzana had decided to move to Kabul with me" (Hosseisi 207). (blended because the quote can stand alone) Amir was returning to the place where Hassan and Ali had left Baba and Amir. He had a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach remembering the day that messed up their relationship and broke them apart. He never intended on it, however he was young and stupid. Knowing this, he was very shaken up coming back.
  • U.S & British forces launch airstrikes in Afghanistan

(blended because the quote can stand alone) The same day he met General Taheri, he found the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He was fully in love with her, however never had the guts to talk to her. He stated that her eyes were brown and solid as they met his gaze.
  • Amir goes to visit Rahim Khan

    Amir gets a phone call saying "Rahim Khan is very sick" (Hossesi 191). (blended because the quote can stand on its own) Although he wanted to see how Khan was doing, Amir was really scared. He was about to be reunited with his past and felt ashamed of himself. He never wanted to feel this way again after the Hassan incident and the disappointment he received from Babe after Hassan and Ali left them. He was destroyed yet felt very guilty coming back to the place he wasn't welcome to.
  • Amir graduates high school

    Amir stated "That summer of 1983, I graduated from high school at the age of twenty..." (Hosseini 130). (blended quote because it can stand alone). By the age of 20, Amir had finally graduated his high school. He was the oldest person out of his high school that was still tossing his mortarboard on the football field after the graduation ceremony. He had never imagined this day would come and was excited to continue his life.
