  • Hassan's Birth

    Hassan was born, "in the winter of 1964, just one year after giving brith to [Amir]" (Hosseini 6). Amir has known Hassan for as long as he could remember and always counted Hassan and his brother. Because of their close relationship, Amir never wanted to hurt Hassan or lead him away.
  • Night Before the Kite Tournament

    After Baba talks to Amir the night before the big tournament, Amir thinks to himself saying, "I had a mission now. And I wasn't going to fail Baba. Not this time" (Hosseini 57). Little did Baba know, that this was the final push that Amir needed to make him proud. Baba is always hard on Amit but it always turns out for the better.
  • Hassan is Personally Violated

    Amir thinks to himself, "I caught a glimpse of his face. Saw the resignation in it. It was a look I had seen before. It was the look of a lamb" (Hosseini 76). It was this moment that changed both Hassan and Amir for the rest of their lives. While Hassan tried to forget everything, Amir would not ever forget his wrong doings, furthermore haunting him for the rest of his life.
  • Ali and Hassan Leave Kabul

    It was a stormy day when, "Baba took Ali and Hassan to the bus station. Thuderheads rolled in, painted the sky iron gray" (Hosseini 108). Amir did not do much to try and stop Ali and Hassan from leaving. He thought that if he did not stop him, the guilt of not helping Hassan would leave him.
  • Soviet Union Attack

    Afghanistan hasbeen at war, "since 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded" (New York times 1).
  • Attack on Kabul

    The Soviet Union attacked the capital of Afghanistan called Kabul where, "the first soviet troops parachuted into Kabul on December 27, 1979, to assist Babrak Kabul" (New York Times 2).
  • Amir and Baba Move to California

    Amir remember to himself saying, "I remember the two of us walking through Lake Elizabeth Park in Fremont, a few streets down for our apartment, and watching boys at batting practice, little girls giggling on the swings in the playground" (Hosseini 125). Amir admired America and was immediately drawn to it. On the other hand, Baba had a hard time adjusting to the American ways.
  • Amir Sees Soraya For The First Time

    Amir first saw Soraya when she "walked into a dull gray van two aisles away and out the thermos inside. Her hair spiller to one side when she kneeled amid boxes of old records" (Hosseini 140). At first look, Amir feel in love with Soraya. Amir noticed all the little things about Soraha from the way her hair feel to the way her eyelashes where curled.
  • Amir and Soraya Get Married

    While Amir await his bride in the next room, he can hear, "the chatter from the outside of the door, laughter, and Afghan music playing softly. It sounded like a classical ghazal by Ustad Sarahang" (Hosseini 166). Amir has been awaiting this day since the moment her laid his eyes on Soraya. They both knew they were meant to be.
  • Baba Dies

    The night Baba dies Soraya asked him if he wanted his pain medicine. Baba then relies saying, "Not tonight. There is no pain tonight" (Hosseini 173). Baba died in peace, in his sleep with no pain. While Amir would have ever wanted Baba to die, he was greatful he did not have to suffer through his cancer.
  • Peace Talk

    The Soviet Union finally lets in February of 1989 because of a,"peace talk moderated by the United States" (The New York Times 2).
  • Fight for Power

    Once the Soviet Union left Afghanistan, "power was anarchally divided among competing warlords and indiviual fiefdoms" (New York Times 2).
  • Providing for Mullah Omar

    In 1994, "Pakistani intelligence officers began funneling arm, money, and supplis to Mullah Omar's men, as well as military advisers tp help guide them in battle," which lead Omar to become very powerful (New York Times 3).
  • Mullah Omar's Rein

    Mullah Omar,"had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and the east" (New York Times 2).
  • Taliban Tribe Take Over

    By 1996 the Taliban Tribe,"had taken control of Afghanistan, imposting strict enforvement of fundamentalist Islamic Law" (New York Times 3).
  • Hassan is Murdered by Taliban's

    Rahim recalls. "The Talibs said he was a liar and a thief like all the other Hazars and ordered him to get his family out of the house by sundown. Hasan protested" (Hosseini 219). Because of Hassan's social class, it allows him to be seen as easy target to the Talibs. Furthermore, his refusal to let the Talibs into his home meant sudden death for both Hassan and his wife.
  • Rahim Khan's Call

    Amir narrators, " one day last summer, my friends Rahim Khan called from Pakistan. He asked me to come see him." (Hosseni 1). This call is very important to Amir because it gave him another chance to make things right between him and his old friend Hassan. Without this call, Amir would have never made the trek all the way backs to his homeland.
  • Amir Travels Back to His homeland

    While Amir is waiting for his plane to take off he "sat on a window seat abroad a Pakistani International Airlines flight, watching a pair of uniformed airline worker remove the wheel chocks" (Hosseini 194). While Amir does not want to leave his wife back in America, he knows he must go back to Pakistan to meet with Rahim Khan before he dies. He also most go to make things right between him and Hassan and to let go of the grudge that he has held on to for 20 years.
  • Amir is Attacked by Assef

    While Amir stands in the room he notices that, "Assef put down his prayer bead. Reached in his breast pocket of his black vest. What he fished out of that pocket did not surprise [Amir] one bit: stainless steel brass knuckles" (Hosseini 287). It was in this moment that Amir realized his must be just as strong as Hassan and stand up for himself. Even though Amir was scared to death, he thought of how Hassan would have stood up to Assef with no hesitations.
  • Sohrab Tries Committing Suicide

    When Amir tells Sohrab that be must go back to an orphanage Sohrab cried out saying, "Please! Please no! I'm scared of that place. They'll hurt me! I don't want to!" (Hosseini 341). The thought of going back to an orphanage scared Sohrab so much that he would rather kill himself. Little did Sohrab know that he would not end up back in an orphanage because Amir found a way to get him out of the country.
  • Amir and Sohrab Return to America

    Amir remembers to himself saying, "Soraya picked us up from the airport. I had never been away from Soraya for so long, and when she locked her arms around me neck, when I smelled apples in her hair, I realized how much I missed her" (Hosseini 375). Once Amir and Sohrab returned home, Sohrab did not speak for one year. However, one day Amir brings out a kite to play with and Sohrab finally smiles.
  • 9/11 Attack

    The United States has been on bad terms with Afghanistan, "when it lead an invasion after September 11 attacks by Al Queda" (New York Times1).
  • Sohrab's Smile

    While Amir was flying a kite for the first time in a decade, he," looked down at Sohab. One corner of his mouth had curled up just so. A smile" (Hosseini 370). This little smile from Sohrab had put Amir at ease from his years and years of heartache.
  • Hamid Karzai Presidency of Afghanistan

    In June of 2002, Mr. Karzia was elected saying, "he hoped to secure peace for Afghanistan and win the country much-needed international aid" (New York Times 3).
  • American Troops Sent

    Once President Barak Obama was elceted, he plannes to, "diploy 30,000 additional troops," to Afghanistan (New York Times 4).
