Hassan is born
When "Hassan was born in the winter of 1964" he already wasnt set up for a good life. His mother ran away rigth after his birth. Hassan just had his crippled father to take care of him/ -
Baba builds an ophanidge
Amir recalls that "in the late 1960s when [he] was five or six, Baba decided to build an orphanage" (Hosseini, 13)". Baba wanted to help children who didnt have homes. Baba also has a lot of money and wants to use it for good so builds the orphanidge. -
Hassans Surgery
For Hassans birthday Baba gives him the gift of a fixed lip. Baba says "meet your birthday present" while presenting the doctor to him. -
Hassan is raped by Assef
Hassan was going to get Amir his kite. Assef caught him and said "Because today, it's only going to cost you that blue kite" (Hosseini, 72)" Hassan would not give Assef the kite so Assef hurt him. Even though it wasnt Hassans kite he protected it because it was Amirs. -
Ali and Hassan leave
After Hassan tells Ali of his rape he and his father leave. Ali just tells Baba that "life here is impossible for us now". Baba leaves the situation alone bur always wonders what happened. -
First Soviet troops parachute into Kabul
The soviets came "To assist Barak Karmel.. president in a coup within the Afghan Communist leadership." -
Amir and Baba move to America
Baba and Amir take a long journey but "Baba loved the idea of America". They have no idea how life in America will treat them or how they will survive. They just need to be sure they are safe even if they loose all of their status. -
Jalalalbad
Amir and Baba were headed to Pakistan and expected to ride in a nice truck, but were told "There will be no truck... the truck is beyond repair" (Hosseini, 120). They had stayed in a gross basemnet for a week and now had to travel in another disgusting vehicle. Baba kept Amir safe and their closeness grew on the journey. -
Baba has Cancer
The doctor tells Baba he has "Oat cell Carcioma". Now Amir myst care for Baba as the cancer weakens him. A power shift occurs. -
Amir goes to find Hassan
Amir says "There were a lot of reasons why i went to Hazarajat to find Hassan in 1986. The biggest one...was that i was lonely." Amir wants to reconect with his old friend. Amir feels he doesnt know his old home anymore and think being with Hassan will make him happy. -
Amir gets married
Amir marries his wife, causing him to have "the happiest day of [his] life". Amir doesnt think of the hard times that could be approaching but only of his wife. He is so in love the impending death of Baba isnt as dreadful. -
Last Soviet troops leave Afghanistan
It was an "unilateral withdrawl" and the country was left as a mess "devastated by the war... had become a beacon to Islamic extremists." -
Sanaubar visits Hassan
When Sanaubar arrives she tells Hassan "I have walked long and far to see if you are as beautiful in the flesh as you are in my dreams" (Hosseini, 210). Hassan is very emotional after finally seeing his mother. Sanaubar was trying to atone for leaving him behind. -
Taliban take contol of Afghanistan
With help from Pakistanis the Taliban had controle "imposing strict enforcement of funamentalist Islanic law" -
Taliban to wage warfare
Even though they were defeated they didnt give up they "continued to wage a guerrilla warfare from a base... on the Pakistan-Afghanista border." -
Amir discovers the thaliban leader is Asef
Asef revelas his identity to Amir by saying "Whatever happened to old Baba anyways?". Asef is holding Sohrab captive and hurting him like he hurt Hassan. Amir feels even more of a need to atone when he realizes that Asef is hurting Sohrab like he hurt Hassan. -
Sohrab atempts suicide
When Amir finds Sohrb he is "suddenly on his knees, screaming". Amir cant believe that this small child atempted somethign so crazy. He cant keep his one promise if the child is dead. -
9/11
The Taliban "attack the world trade center". -
Hamid Karzai becomes chairman
After the Taliban was defeted he "was named chairman of an intern government that replaced rge defeated Taliban." -
Amir runs kites for Sohrab
Amir one days askes "Do you want me to run that kite for you?" This was a big step because it shows them growing a strong bond. Amir belives he saw a small smile on Sohrabs face. -
Hamid Karzai becomes intern president
He hopes to "secure peace for Afghanistan and win the country much needed international aid." -
Mr. Karzai is elected
He was "elected to a five year term." -
General Petraeus takes charge of United States Central Command
He is in charge of "military operations in Iraq." -
Obama gives a speech at West Point
Oama "plans to deploy 30,000 additional troops." and says he will bring home more troops in 2011.
