Baba decided to build an orphanage. He designed the two story building himself ,as everyone shook their heads in awe at his [triumph]."(13) Durring this time, Amir learned more about his father and the relationship that the two had. -
Amir Won the Kite Fighting Competition
Amir sliced a bue causing it to "[spin] wildly like a tire come loose from a speeding car" and won the contest. (66) This was an important part of the Kite Runner because it was when Hassan was attacked. However, it was also where Baba was proud of Amir; a turning point in their relaionship. -
Hassan and Ali Leave
Amir tries to bannish Hassan by "lifting Hassan's mattress and [planting his] new watvh and a handful af Afgnai bills under it."(104) Baba then, to Amirs suprise, forgave Hassan for what Amir really did. However Ali stepped in and decalred that the two were leaving regardless. -
Soviet Troops Parachuted into Kabul
"The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul on Dec. 27, 1979, to asist Babrak Karmal", and stayed for nine years, costing them 15,000 lives.(New York Times) -

Amir Flees Afghanistan
Amir and Baba were smuggled out to the "relitive safety of Pakistan." (111) Along the way, Baba was almost killed by a Soviet solgier. Once in Pakistan however, they continued on to the United States. -

Amir gets Married
When Amir got married, the event also affected others as well as himself. For Baba, he said that it was "the happiest day of [his] life."(165) However, this event may have also caused him to feel fufiled with his life and gave him a scense of joy before his death. -
Baba Dies
When "Baba never woke up," after goin to sleep, his death was followed by and caused much to happen. When Khan called and requested Amir's return to Afghanistan, Amir was torn between two halfs of himself. Part of what casued him to go and rescue Sohrab was Baba's legacy. -
Amir Finnishes His First Book
Amir finally completed his novel that he started as a security guard. Amir's book was then so popular that "the publisher sent [him] on a give-city tour."(183) This increased Amir's much needed confidence in himself which, in turn, helped convence himself to go to Afghanistan -
Soviets Leave
The Soviets left Afghanistan "after peace talks moderated by the United Nations," concluding their stay. The Soviets stayed for over 9 years before leaving. -
Mullah Omar (Taliban) Had Nearly 12,000 Followers
The Taliban grew from a student movement dedicated to purifying the Country and gained more and more followers. -
Pakistan Aided the Taliban
Pakistan supplied the Taliban with arms and money, "which might have withered were it not for the intervention."(Afghanistan- An Overview) -
Hassan Dies
When Hassan protested being thrown out of his house, the Taliban "shot him in the back of the head."(219) Later, Rahim Khan told Amir that Hassan's son was still in Afghanistan. Amir realised that Sohrab was his final chance to atone for his wrong doings towards Hassan, and therefore took the opportunity when it was presented to him. -
9/11 Bombings
Al Queda took over a several airliners which caused an "attack on the World Trade Center in New York" to occur.(Afghanistan-An Overview) -
The United States Declared War On the Taliban
After the Taliban refused to hand Bin Laden over to the US, the US "joined forces with rebel groups that had never accepted Taliban rule" and began to drive the Taliban out. (New York Times) -
Hamid Karzai Was Named Chairman of an Interim Goverment
Hamid Karzai's goverment replaced the defeated Taliban and Karzai took over, saying that "he hoped to secure peace for Afghanistan."(Afghanistan- An Overview) -
Rahim Khan Calls Amir
Rahim Khan called from Pakistan and "asked [Amir] to come see him." (1) This is the begining of Amir's adventure into Afghanistan. The experence would leave him with a son and knowlage that he had atoned for his sins. -
Amir Returns to Afghanistan
When Amir accepts Khans offer and returns to Afghanistan, "[he feels] like a tourist in [his] oun country."(231) Durring Soviet occupation, Amir's home country changed greatly. However, once the Taliban took over, Kabul was a completly different city than the one Amir knew. -

When "Rahim Khan called from Pakistan... [and asked Amir] to come see him," Amir decided to do as Rahim Khan asked. Once there, Amir was asked to go rescue Hassans son in Afghanistan. What caused him to go were his unatoned sins that Amir thought would be fixed durring his trip. -
Amir Saves Sohrab
When Amir discovers that Sohrab is not in the orphanage, he goes to rescue him as [a name escaped his] lips: Assef."(281) Unfortunately, Amir was attacked and beaten by Assef. Sohrab then saves Amirs life by crippling Assef. -
Sohrab Attempts Suicide
Sohrabs attempted suicied devistated Amir, who was "on [his] knees, screaming" when he discovered what had happened.(343) However, Sohrab was also changed by this traumatic event. For one reason or another, from that day on, he stopped talking and 'slept' through the year to come. -
Sohrab Attempts Suicide
When Amir told Sohrab that he would need to return to an orphanage, he atempted suicide, thus causing "almost a year to before [Amir] would hear Sohrab speak another word."(356) This event caused Soraya to give up hope on the orphan. However, Amir continued to entertain him in order to help. -
Amir Runs Sorhab's Kite
On a rainy day, Amir saw a number of kites fighting and joined the fray with Sorhab, and togeather sent sent a "green kite spinning and wheeling out of control."(370) This chapter brought about the end of the story, however it was full of importance. It marks the 'awakening' of Sorhab and brought Amir into a new life. -
Obama Decuded to remove Troops in Afghanistan
Obama planned to remove troops, but changed to deciding "that the United States will have forces in the country until at least the end of 2014."(Afghanistan- An Overview)
