Exposition:"Lynn and I were perfectly hapy in Iowa. I did not see why we had to move to a southern state where my father said you could not understand a word people said because of their southern accents (Kadohata, 20). -
Lynn's dream.
Rising Action: "No matter what happens, one day when we're each married, we'll own house down the block from each other. We'll live by the sea in California" (Kadohata,49). -
Rising Action: Lynn gets sick.
Rising Action: " When Lynn got back from the hospital a couple days later my mother insited everything was fine. Aparently her anemia was 'acting up'" (Kadohata,129). -
Rising Action: Katie, Lynn, and Sammy go out for a picnic.
Rising Action: "Someone had set up a trap in the field,the metal kind that bites an anmial until it is forced to chew off its own leg. The The teeth dug through Sam's skin, making a circle of red on his then ankle" (Kadohata,142). -
Rising Action: at the store.
Rising action: "Finally, I approched the nail polish aisle. I stuck some beautiful pink nail polish in my pocket and walked calmly out... Suddenly I felt a hand grab my upper arm. I didn't even turn to look- I just ran, and ran," (Kadohata, 171). This sentence also shows an example of indirect characterization. In this sentence Katie is feeling confdent,and at the end of the sentence she is feeling paniced. -
Climax: Lynn dies.
Climax: "Inside the living room, my father laid me down on my cot. 'She's gone,' he said," (Kadohata, 200).
This is the climax becuase when Lynn dies the whole family turns gloomy. Katie has to take care of her family until her dad breaks out of his shell and realizes that Lynn won't come bcak, and there is nothing he can do about her death. -
Falling Action
Falling Action: "He walked up the driveway to a red Cadillac and crashed the wood into the front windshield," (Kadahota, 209).
Indirect characterizationHere Katies father get mad at Mr. Lyndon becuase he put the trap where it was. That trap was the one that hurt Sam's foot. This also show indirect charecterization. In these senteces you can tell that her dad is furious towards Mr. Lyndon. -
Falling Action
Falling Action: "I couldn't pay attention to what was going on because I was so nervous about my speech," (Kadohata, 218). This is also an example of direct characterization. The authour states that Katie is feeling nervous. -
Resolution
Resolution: He said "'Dad, I'm sorry I said you should bash his car again!'
'We're going to apoligize for what I did to Mr. Lyndon's car.' He said."(Kadohata, 231). This is another example of direct characterization. The author says that katie is sorry for what she said to her father.
