He was born at Edinburgh Castle. He was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley. When King James was 8 months, his father Darnley, was found murdered. Mary got married again,but was forced to renounce the throne of Scotland to her infant son. -

Got Married
He got married to Anne. She was the daughter of Frederick II of Denmark and Norway. They both had three sons and five daughters. Anne died in 1603. -
Ascended to the throne
He was ascended to the throne at age 36 years. -
Crowned King
He was crowned king at Westminster Abbey. He was the first of the Stuart Kings. He considered his rule to be by the "Divine Right of Kings". Which means he thinks his position as King was appointed by god. -
Gunpowder Plot
The plan was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of England's Parliament. The same day Princess Elizabeth, James's nine year old daughter, was going to be installed as the Catholic head of state. After hoping for greater religious tolerance from King James and seeing it not happen they give up on him and left many English Catholics disappointed. Guy Fawkes was the master mind behind the plot including his fellow friends John Wright, Thomas Wintour, Thomas Percy, and many more. -
Died
He died at Theobalds Park, Hertfordshire, aged 58 years. His son Charles I becomes king of England and Scotland.
