Henry VIII marries Catherine of Aarogon
Soon after his father's burial on 10 May, Henry suddenly declared that he would indeed marry Catherine. The daughter of Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, Catherine was three years old when she was betrothed to Prince Arthur, heir apparent to the English throne. They married in 1501, and Arthur died five months later. -

The only child of Henry and Catherine to make it to adult age. Mary I was the Queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 until her death. Her executions of Protestants led to the posthumous sobriquet "Bloody Mary". Died November 17 1558. -

Birth of Elizabeth
The queen gave birth to a daughter slightly prematurely on 7 September 1533. The child was christened Elizabeth, in honour of Henry's mother, Elizabeth of York. Anne's marriage to Henry VIII was annulled, and Elizabeth was declared illegitimate. -

Execution of Anne Boleyn
Between 30 April and 2 May, five men, including Anne's brother, were arrested on charges of treasonable adultery and accused of having sexual relationships with the queen. Anne was also arrested, accused of treasonous adultery and incest. Although the evidence against them was unconvincing, the accused were found guilty and condemned to death. George Boleyn and the other accused men were executed on 17 May 1536. At 8 am on 19 May 1536, Anne was executed on Tower Green. -

Marriage to Jane Seymour
The day after Anne's execution in 1536 Henry became engaged to Seymour, who had been one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting. They were married ten days later.n 12 October 1537, Jane gave birth to a son, Prince Edward, the future Edward VI.[104] The birth was difficult, and the queen died on 24 October 1537 from an infection and was buried in Windsor. -

Anne of Cleves
Anne of Cleves was Queen of England from 6 January 1540 to 9 July 1540 as the fourth wife of King Henry VIII.The marriage was declared never consummated, and, as a result, she was not crowned queen consort. Following the annulment of their marriage, Anne was given a generous settlement by the King, and thereafter referred to as the King's Beloved Sister. -

Catherine Howard
On 28 July 1540, Henry married the young Catherine Howard, a first cousin and lady-in-waiting of Anne Boleyn. Soon after the marriage, however, Queen Catherine had an affair with the courtier Thomas Culpeper. Catherine was beheaded on 13 February 1542. -

Mary I of England
As the fourth crowned monarch of the Tudor dynasty, Mary is remembered for her restoration of Roman Catholicism after the short-lived Protestant reign of her half-brother. During her five-year reign, she had over 280 religious dissenters burned at the stake in the Marian persecutions. Her re-establishment of Roman Catholicism was reversed after her death in 1558 by her younger half-sister and successor Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry and Anne Boleyn. -
