    Charles I was born on November 19, 1600 in Dunfermline, Scotland. His parents were James I of England and Anne of Denmark. His father was the monarch of England and his mother was the queen of England.

    About 100 English colonists arrive along the banks of the James River in Virginia to found Jamestown, the first English permanent settlement in North America. Funded by the London Company, the colonists had to sail across the Atlantic Ocean on the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery boats. This event is important because much more land will soon be explored.

    In 1611 the King James Bible was published. This would be known as the 1st English bible in the world. The Bible is read in countries around the world today and many people from different backgrounds and ages. This event is important because the Bible we have today is based off of the King James Bible. This played a big role for Christianity.

    Charles I Becomes a Heir to Throne
    Due to the death of his elder brother Henry, Charles I becomes a heir to three thrones. Next in line to rule England, Ireland, and Scotland was an important period in Charles' life. Being in line for succession to his father, King James VI, lasted 13 years. This event is important because Charles I will later claim throne of three important kingdoms.

    In 1618, Charles I made his first emergence into public affairs. He emerged into publicity on the topic of the loss the crown in Bohemia. The person responsible was his brother in law, Frederick V. This event was important because it earned Chrales I a name for himself before he took power.

    The Mayflower Compact, signed by 41 English colonists on the Mayflower ship. It was the first written form of government made in what is now the USA. The compact was made to prevent disputes between Puritans and Pilgrims.

    In 1625, Charles I succeeded to his father's thrones. He is now monarch of three kingdoms, England, Ireland, and Scotland. Also, this year he married Louis XIII sister Henrietta Maria of France. This event is importnt because this year, Charles I became one of the most powerful men in the world.

    After relations with Louis XIII dissolved, Charles declared war on France and Spain in 1627. This was the 2nd war Charles I declared while in rule. The war dissolved and relations with one antoher came to a hault. This event is important because England had lost allies with the French and Spanish. This disrupted trade.

    Petition of Right
    The Petition of Right, 1628, was a parliamentary declaration of the rights and liberties of the people of England, agreed to by Charles I in the beginning of his reign, and considered a constitutional document second in importance only to Magna Carta. This event is important because King Charles I wrote a set of laws/rights that the people of England ust follow. This caused argumnets, but some agreed to it.

    John Winthrop Leads Puritans to Mass. Bay
    In March, John Winthrop led a Puritan migration of nine-hundred colonists to Massachusetts Bay, where he served as the first governor. In September that year, Boston was officially known as the site of Winthrop's government. This event is important because it officialy made the Puritans a large, well known group in North America.

    Catholic Rebellion in Ireland
    The Irish Rebellion of 1641 started as an attempted plan by Irish Catholic upperclass, who tried to gain control of the English group in Ireland to force priveledges for the Catholics under English rule. However, the plan failed and the rebellion developed into an religious conflict between Irish Catholics and Englis/Scottish Protestants. (Grun)

    Entered House of Commons
    In 1642, Charles I entered the House of Commons. Charles only did so to arrest 5 of their leading members for treason. In a failed attempt to arrest five members of Parliament, who had fled before his arrival, Parliament acted by passing a Militia Bill that made sure troops were raised under officers approved by Parliament.

    In 1646, Chrales I surrendered to Scottish allies of Parliament. While in dispute with Parliament, Charles I was a wanted man to them. The English Civil War started when Charles I raised his royal standards in Nottingham, which seperated him from Parliament. This event is important because his capture led to his death.

    Scottish Generals prepared the "Man of Blood Trial" on December 6-7, 1648. They used this term referring to any man of violence. This act was brought upon Charles I due to the war he declared on Parliament. This event is important because it led to a very poewrful leader's death.

    King Charles I Beheaded
    On January 3th, King Charles I was beheaded for treason, by Scottish enemies. The monarchy dissolved, and Oliver Cromwell gained control of the new English Commonwealth. This event is important because the government of England changed and Oliver Cromwell became the new ruler of England.
