  • Benito Mussolini

    Benito Mussolini
    In 1922 Mussolini became the prime minister of Italy. He was one of the key persons to create a world of facism. He would have legally been able to rule Italy until 1925 but he created a dictatorship and ruled basically almost until the end of WWII in 1944. He was an ally of Hitler because both of them wanted to create complete facism in their countries.

    Dictator
    In 1925 Mussolini overthrew the democracy in Italy by becoming a dictator. He was the first to become a dictator in Europe. Later in 1934 Adolf Hitler followed Mussolini in becoming a dictator in Germany. Dictators rule everything in the country and have all three forces in their control. These two dictators are known for running WWII Opposition to gain control over the whole world and accomplish their goals.

    Nazism
    Nazis are the followers of Adolf Hitler's Ideals. His party took over the congress of Germany in 1933 and that led to Adolf Hitler becoming "Reichskanzler" (type of prime minister) and later the dictator of Germany. The Nazis are responsible for the mass murder of millions of Jews and other people during WWII.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt
    Franklin D. Roosevelt served as the 32nd President of the United States and started his first term in 1933. He was the first president to win four elections and he was president until he died in 1945. He led the US through the Great Depression where he was well known for his New Deal Program to end the Depression. Nevertheless his program couldn't end the depth of the Great Depression. But America's economy grew big again in the WWII which was led by FDR after Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan.

    Fascism

    Fascism took theories of socialism but exchanged the conflict between the social classes with a conflict between races and nations. This led to the annihilation of millions of people before and during WWII. Fascism was first established by Mussolini in Italy and then used by Hitler to explain his ideals.

    In 1934 Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi-Party in Germany, took over Germany as a dictator. He was an Austrian-born politican that was the centre of WWII and the Holocaust and basically responsible for killing millions of Jews. He also responsible for the planning of the attack on Poland to start of the WWII in which millions of soldiers died.

    Propaganda is a way of advertisement that promotes a special side as the side using the right ways for everything. Propaganda was used by both sides during the WWII and was also a way of holding the pride up and reasoning the actions as if they were all good.

    Rape of Nanking
    The Rape of Nanking or also called the Nanking Massacre is a six-week period in which Japan troops attacked Nanking which was at that time considered the chinese capital. Between 40,000 and 300,000 civialians and soldiers were killed. Great raping and looting also occured.

    The role of women in society changed drastically during WWII. The reasons for that were that men had to fight in the war and so there were no workers to manufacture supplies, weapons and vehicles. But during the World War those jobs were taken over by women and they produced and worked in facturies instead of men.

    The Lend Lease Act was basically aid granted to allied countries to supply them with food, oil and material. Billions of Dollars went into that program but it helped win the war for the Allies. The act was signed in 1941 and ended by 1945.

    In 1941 Japan attacked the United States that before had declared Neutrality towards the war in Europe. That led to the entry of the United States into the war against Japan and Germany. It was also tie-changing for the war outcome in Europe.

    Rationing was the way to save the supply of food for the soldiers in Europe by normal civilians that ration their food. War bonds were another way to support the war effort. The citizen bought war bonds and saved the financing of the war for America.

    Japanese-American Interment Camps

    Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor Japanese Americans were relocated into Internment Camps outside the society. Until 1980 the congress held the statement up that it was constitutional but then under pressure president Jimmy Carter had to order an investigation.

    By 1943 there were over 18 million Victory Gardens in the United States. The government programs encouraged the promotion of the Victory Gardens. Victory Gardens means that food is grown on privat places. This not just supports the supply for soldiers fighting in Europe but also shows the courage, pride and support of the American.

    Audie Murphy
    He is known as one of the most decorated if not the most decorated soldiers of WWII in the entire World. He received every award you can get in the US and also Belgian and French awards for his intense heroism. He is most famous for the single-handedly defense against a german offensive and the leading of a counter attack while being wounded and out of ammonution. He received the Medal of Honour for that.
  • Fire Bombing of Dresden

    Fire Bombing of Dresden
    The Bombing of Dresden occured in the final months of the total war. In a few days the Allies dropped over 3.900 tons of high explosive and incendiary bombs onto Dresden. An estimated number of about 25.000 people died in the Bombing.

    Vernon Baker
    Vernon Baker is one of the few African Americans that received the Medal of Honor for his actions in WWII. He received it in 1997 from Bill Clinton. He was one of the longest living War Veterans and died in 2010.
  • Harry S. Truman

    Harry S. Truman
    After the death of FDR Truman succeded in winning the presidency. He was one of the leaders of the Allies that led to the conclusion of WWII which also led to the start of the Cold War afterwards. Truman was the president to approve the dropping of the atomic bombs against Japan.
