  • Annexation of Sudentenland

    Annexation of Sudentenland
    In October 1938, Germany's leader Adolf Hitler marched into Sudentenland and proclaimed self-determination for Germans in Czechslovakia and Austria. In March 1939, Hiter took the Sudentenland and annexed the majority for the glory of Germany.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941, Japanese fighter planes bombed Pearl Harbor, destroying 20 naval vessels, 8 battleships and more than 300 airplanes. The attack killed 2,403 people, and injured another 1,000. 1,117 died alone from the sinking of the Arizona. On December 8th, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan.

  • The Phillipines

    The Phillipines
    The Philippines were attacked by Imperial Japan: just nine hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States had military bases occupying the islands and were not expecting the attack. For the next few years, the United States would struggle to take back control of the islands.

  • Japanese Internment Camps

    Japanese Internment Camps
    President Franklin D. Roosevelt had established Executive Order 9066 in early 1942. The Order declared that all Americans of Japanese descent were to be sent to isolated camps to live. Several areas popped up over the country. Japanese-Americans were doomed to spend the next 3 years in internment camps. This is considered one of the worst violations against an American's civil rights from the 1900s.

    This strategy was developed by the Allied Powers to battle against the Axis Powers during World War II. The plan was to launch an attack island by island and create military bases once an island has been taken. This was very effective while battling Imperial Japan.

    Guadalcanal
    The Battle of Guadalcanal, nicknamed Operation Watchtower by the American militar, was a surpise attack by the U.S. Marines on the Solomon Islands. The Marines supressed Japanese forces and took over an airbase that had been under construction. Both sides suffered major casualties concerning sea crafts and people.

    The Battle of Stalingrad took place in Southern Russia where the Germans and Soviets fought for control over the booming industrial city. This battle in itself was considered the largest, longest, and bloodiest battle to occur in WW2. More than 2 million troops fought on the ground in close-knit quarters. This was a turning point in the war for the Allied Powers.

    D-Day, the Battle of Normany, lasted over two months and more than 4,000 lives were lost among Allied forces. The invasion was highly strategized and well-prepared for. Americans, Canadians, Russians, and the English attacked at 5 different beaches, with Omaha being the bloodiest.

  • Meeting at Yalta

    Meeting at Yalta
    The meeting at Yalta was the second meeting orchestrated by the Big Three. They discussed the possibilities of what was to happen to all the territory and cities post war. The USSR was granted back their Japanese territory and a part of China was given to them aswell. Germany was also divided into parts among the world leaders. This conference would also be the last that FDR attends.

  • Fall of Berlin

    Fall of Berlin
    The Fall of Berlin was pure bloodshed. Steady artillery and tanks followed by attacks from the air and men on the ground pushed the Germans back into their own suburbs. The Soviets captured Reichstag and proceeded to fight until discovering the ashes of Hitler in the Chancellery gardens.

  • Death of Hitler

    Death of Hitler
    Adolf Hiter, the leader of Germany, shot himself in the back of the head once discovering there was no hope for his country. His wife Eva, who he had married the night before, had swallowed poison and followed him into the beyond.     Los Alamos
    Los Alamos was the site where the Manhattan Project underwent everything to make the atomic bomb. The people working on the Manhattan Project was sworn to secrecy. The workers creating the bomb weren even aware of what it was. This atomic bomb was the same one to be dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th of the same year.

    Meeting at Potsdam
    This conference was held by The Big Three. For two weeks, they argued over many matters, including the fate of Germany and other key matters. The conference failed to do much but accomplished setting up the world for the Cold War.

    Hiroshima
    The world's first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6th, 1945. 90% of Hiroshima and 80,000 people were wiped out upon the bomb's impact. Thousands would die to radiation poisoning and exposure much later.
