  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    A meeting in New York City consisting of delegates from 9 of the 13 colonies discussing and acting upon the recently passed Stamp Act.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
    A series of acts passed beginning in 1767 by the Parliament of Great Britain named for Charles Townshend and were made to raise revenue in the colonies, to create a more effective means of enforcing compliance with trade regulations, to punish the province of New York for disobeying the Quartering Act, and to establish the precedent that the British Parliament had the right to tax the colonies.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    An incident that led to the deaths of five civilians at the hands of British troops. The riot began when about 50 citizens attacked a British sentinel. Then, a British officer killed 3 citizens, and 8 were wounded while 2 died later.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    After officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor.
