    The Civil War

The war that freed the slaves from the South, and made the South and North come together, and become a country.
  • Shiloh, TN

    Shiloh, TN
This was the first battle that the North won during the Civil War.
The Union soldiers took a rest for the night in a peach tree orchard. Unfortunately for them, they did not realize they were on the South sound of the Orchard. During the night, the Confederate soldiers came and started firing, most soldiers were asleep so they had a slow start on the battle. This battle lasted 3 days and in the end the North called in reinforcements, outnumbering the confederacy, and won the battle at Shiloh.
  • Fredericksburg, VA

    Fredericksburg, VA
Showed that even though we are against each other in this war, we can still have compassion for one another. The south won this battle because of the defense line they had which was actually only a 3 foot high wall. The North was not as lucky, and suffered greatly. A man quickly named Richard Kirkland heard the cries of many dying men and because of compassion he took the risk and went to each man giving them water. The South immediately stopped fighting just to watch the compassion being shown.
  • The Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation
This is the document that freed the slaves that were in the confederacy.
At first the emancipation proclamation did not succeed because there was so negative feedback. From both his advisers, and the people. So he had to issue the emancipation proclamation twice before it was actually applied. The battle of Antietam is also the battle that caused the proclamation to be a victory. This proclamation also changed the point of the war, meaning we were fighting for the freedom rights of the slaves.
  • Gettysburg, PA

    Gettysburg, PA
This was the turning point of the war, that decided who was going to win in the end.
What is really incredible about this battle, is the fact that is not the largest battle of the war, but it is by far the most important. Many brave acts of service was presented there. 64 medals of honors were also given to people who fought at the battle of Gettysburg. It represented the entire speech given by Edward Everett but not in words. So overall this is one of the most important battles in history.
  • Lincoln gets re-elected as president

    Lincoln gets re-elected as president
Showed that we had a good leader during the depressing time of war, and we could trust him.
Because he got re-elected for a second term of presidency, the chance to negotiate with the confederacy for settlement could not happen. Lincoln also won by a long shot against McClellan. People thought McClellan was brilliant, but since he did not pursue Lee in 1862, people changed their mind. Which gave Lincoln the upper hand. It was also a miracle the election could've been held at all, during the war.
