Popper’s major contribution to the philosophy of science and science, in general, entails his “falsifiability methodology” that he used and proposed to be used in the verification of scientific principles, theories and hypotheses.
  • Major Contribution.

Falsifiability criterion describes the scientific discovery and observation under a postulated rule that relies on the unavailability of evidence that is contradicting. When this is proven, then a corroboration to scientific theories results. Popper’s life’s work in pseudosciences led him to believe that they are not empirical in nature as they did not align to his falsifiability criterion. These sciences include metaphysics, astrology, Freudian psychoanalysis and Marxist history.
  • Major Contribution.

He traditional view of scientific validation incorporated the use of inductive method in empirical sciences which was the repeated testing and obtaining of a similar outcome and observation to validate a scientific theory. Deductive validation was not the way to go according to Popper, who used Scottish empiricist’s, David Hume, findings that depicted an infinite number of confirming results that prove a scientific principle factual.
  • Major Contribution.

With this methodology in place, Popper sees the creation of inevitable solutions to the problem of induction. He believed inductive reasoning plays no part in the accounts of scientific theory choice. Therefore, the practice of science will always be characterized by the continuity in efforts, research, testing and observation of the theories and principles against it, and tentatively making revisions and corrections based on the results.
