Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr was a Nobel Prize winning Physicist whose contribution to science helps us understand the structure and properties of atoms and elements.

Doctorate
After completing his Masters in Physics in 1909, Bohr went even further into his education to become a Doctor of Physics. During this time, he was working at the University of Cambridge under Sir J.J. Thomson. -
Atoms
Working in Professor Rutherfords Laboratory, he published a theory on absorption of alpha rays. Afterwards, he switched lanes and started working on his atomic model theory. Using Rutherford's discovery of an atomic nucleus and concepts from Plancks' Quantum Theory, developed his atomic model theory. -
Career
In 1916, he became a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Copenhagen University. Later (1920), he became the Head of the Institute of Physics at the same university. Bohr remained here for the rest of his career. -
Nobel Prize
Bohrs' work on the structure of atoms, The Bohr Model, received a Nobel Prize in Physics. Bohr was the first to discover that electrons travel in separate orbits around a nucleus. That and the amount of electrons will describe the properties of an element. The element bohrium is named after him. -
Atomic Energy Project
During the Nazi occupation of Denmark, Bohr escaped to Sweden and worked with the United States on the Atomic Energy Project. While the main focus was atomic weaponry, Bohr advocated for peaceful use of atomic physics.
