Congress passes Compromise of 1850
It was proposed by Henry Clay. It contained provisions to please Northerners and Southerners. It's adopted by Stephan A. Douglass. Millad Fillmore, who supported the Compromise and he became president after Zachary Taylor. Fillmore is antislavery. Teas-Mexico Boundary dispute resolved, paid $10 million by federal government. -
Harriet Tubman became conductor
During her time as a slave, Harriet didnt like it so she ran away. She created the Underground Railroad, which is a road to help slaves escape. Everyone thougth Harriet was doing a good job so they made her conductor of the Railroad. -
Calfornia enters the Union
The population of California boomed because of the Gold Rush. State Consitution forbade slavery. This caused the Compromise of 1850 and called for a stricter fugitive slave law. -
Fugitive Slave Act
It is an Act where slaves are not allowed to trail by jury and they could not testify on their own behalf. Anyone helping a slave would be fined and jailed. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin is published
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. She got a name from Abraham Lincoln which is "the little lady that started this great big war" -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Republican Party opposed Kansas-Nebraska Act and slavery. They call it Bleeding Kansas. It pushed the idea of popular sovereignty. -

He was an antislavery fanatic. He also commited the Pottawatomie creek masacre. He gets hanged for doing all of this. -
Lincoln elected president
Lincoln wins his election. Since Lincoln won the Southerners are mad Lincoln became president so that means they lost their political voice in government. South Carolina is the first state to secede.
