This is a timeline of the history in 1600-1700. There are many dates that are not included, but theses are a few dates that I researched. -
Founding of Jamestown
Jamestown was the first English settlement. English men arrived in North America to start the settlement. On May 13 they picked Jamestown to become the settlement for Virginia. This became the first permanent in English settlement in North America. -
Kalmar War
The War of Kalmar started in April of 1611, and it ended in 1613. This war was between Denmark and Sweden for control of the northern Norwegian coast and country. This war resulted in Sweden’s acceptance of Denmark-Norway’s sovereignty over the area. -
First African Slaves
The first African slaves were brought to Jamestown in August 1619 to work for and serve the English settlers. -
House of Burgesses
The House of Burgesses was the first representative assembly in America and the settlers met for the first time in Virginia. -
Mayflower Compact
Before the passengers stepped off the ship, they had forty-one of their men sign the Mayflower Compact. It was an agreement that would form the basis of the colonies' governments. -
The Puritan Expedition
The Puritan Expedition left England for the New World on the Mayflower on September 6. The mayflower first landed at Cape Cod. They explored the coastline for a settlement location, and they built their town at Plymouth. -
The Indian Massacre
The Indian Massacre of 1622 occurred when Chief Opchanacanough and the Powhatan Confederacy tried to rid the colony of settlers. Three hundred people were killed, which was one third of the colony at the time. -
The Royal Charter
The Royal charter for the Massachusetts Bay Colony was granted by King Charles I. A royal charter is a formal document that was issued by a monarch. With this charter, the settlers further established the colony and expanded it. -
Pennsylvania
William Penn formed a religious forbearing colony and named it Pennsylvania. The colony built their houses spread apart along the river and desired to live in peace with Native Americans. -
Coal Burning Oven Invention
John Sibthorpe invented the coal burning oven in England. It was used to cook food and keep people warm. This invention moved to America in the 1820s to help the settlers cook food and keep them warm at night. -
Providence, Rhode Island
Providence, Rhode Island was founded in June of 1636 by Roger Williams. Williams founded this colony two years after his banishment from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The charter for this colony would be granted eight years later as a democratic colony that believed in the separation of church and state. -
English Civil War
The English Civil War started in August 1642 and ended in 1651. This was also called the Great Rebellion. The fighting took place in the British Isles. -
Mercantilism
Mercantilism was a fuel of the Navigation Act. The mother country should produce finish products. The colonies supply raw material. -
Navigation Acts
The Navigation Act started in 1651 and ended in 1696. English history, a series of laws designed to restrict England which carries trade to English ships. The development of English shipping was a sufficient supplement that would be available in wartime. -
Seized New Amsterdam Event
New Amsterdam was seized by the English and the Dutch, and they renamed it New York. -
King Phillips War
The King Philips War started in 1675 and ended in 1678. This war was also called the Great Narragansett War. This war was against Native Americans and English settlers and their Indian allies. The war was one of the bloodiest conflicts in U.S. history. -
Two Treaty Governments
The Two Treaty Government started in 1690. The Two Treaty Government was written by Locke. The treaties that were written helped equalize and gave freedom. -
Settlers
The Free settlers move into Mississippi and Louisiana.
