Always on the Road
Growing up the Depp family was constantly moving around. John Depp (his father) was a civil engineer and in order to accomadate to his job it was necessary that they move around frequently ("Johnny Depp Biography"). Finally, when Johnny was 7 they settled in Miramar, Florida. His Parents Divorce
In 1978, When Johnny was just 15, he went through a rough pathc with his family. "I was 15, I think, [when my parents got divorced]. It had been coming for quite a long time" ("Johnny Depp Talks About His Past"). This split beween his parents ultimately caused a rift between Johnny and his father and led him into more trouble. He claims that he hung out with the wrong crowd and broke into stores and the school just to cause trouble. ("Johnny Depp Talks About his Past"). -
High School Drop Out
When Johnny was 16 years old he made the decison to drop out of school to become a mucisian. He joined a band called "The Kids" and they were quite successful for a short amount of time. "The group [the band] become successful enough to open for the Talking Heads and the B-52s, but they barely made ends meet" ("Johnny Depp Biography"). With the low money income from the band, Depp lived in a car fro months and needed to find another source of money. -
The Start of An Amazing Career
With the low income from his career of being a mucisian, Depp needed more money. With the help of a friend Johnny was introduced into the world of acting where he thrived. Johnny says, "Nicolas Cage. We met through a mutual friend. I met with his agent, and she sent me to read for Wes Craven and Annette Benson, the casting agent for New Line Cinema" (Waters). The reading was for the movie "Nightmare on Elm Street. -
21 Jump Street
Johnny grew a serious interest in acting and began to take lessons at the Loft Studio and eventuslly landed a position that jump started his career. Johnny took the role of Tommy Hanson in the hit show 21 Jump street. This role really introduced Johnny to the acting feild, "The role thrust Depp into almost immediate stardom" ("Johnny Depp Biography"). Although this show brought fame and money to Depp he was excited to leave and take on different roles. -
Love at First Sight
While filming the movie the "Ninth Gate", Depp met Vanessa Paradis, A french actress, singer and model. ("Johnny Depp Biography"). The two fell in love almost immedidately. Depp says, "You have this feeling - I can't really explain what it was, but I had it when I met her. I saw her across the room and thought: 'What's happening to me?'" (Donnelly). The couple never got engaged but di have two kids Lily-Rose and Jack. -
Captain Jack
One of Depp's Biggest, most successful roles was Jack Sparrow in the movies "Pirates of the Caribbean". The movies were a major success for not only the box offices but Johnny Depp himself, "Depp earned an Academy Award nomination for his starring role as Captain Jack Sparrow" ("Johnny Depp Biography"). Later on, Depp returned as Captian Jack, the second film broke the box office record for the highest weekend tally ever. ("Johnny Depp Biography"). -
More Trouble
Johnny Depp Interview While traveling to Australia to film the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp once again, faced legal troubles. In this interview Depp claims that he was under the impression that he had filled out all the paperwork in order to bring his dogs to the country.
