Kepler was best known for his Laws of planetary motion. Based off of newton's law of motion, and the fact that planets orbit in ellipses he was able to conclude that planets must be traveling faster near the sun, and traveling slower when away from it. it is why summer's are shorter, and winters are longer, vise versa for Australia. Kepler fist concluded the laws of planetary motion in the year 1609, where he discovered the first two laws of planetary motion. -

Kepler discovered planets orbit in an ellipse
Kepler discovered in 1609 that planets orbit in an ellipse, not a circle. Using Tycho's calculations, he was able to figure this out.
