Navigation Acts
Purpose: Makes sure the colonists only trade with the British Outcome: The colonist are angry that they can't trade with merchants that give more money. -
Proclomation of 1763
Purpose: Sets Appalachian Mountains as a western border. Outcome: The colonists are angry that they can't go west so they can have more land. -
Sugar Act
Purpose:Lowers taxes on items and officers can seize smuggler's good without going to court. Outcome: The colonist feel violated of their rights as English citizens. -
Stamp Act
Purpose: Placed a tax on all legal documents. Outcome: The colonists hated being taxed directly by the British and the British taxed the colonists without their consent. -
Declaratory Acts
Purpose: States that Parliament had the right to tax the colonists. Outcome: The colonists would have no say in this act. -
Townshend Act
Purpose:Import taxes are only on glass, tea, and paper. Outcome: By this time, any British tax will anger the colonist -
Tea Act
Purpose: Allowed British India Company sole control of tea trade in America. Outcome: The colonists boycott the company and try to stop them from unloading tea. -
Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
Purpose: Closes Boston harbor until Massachusetts pay for the damaged tea in the Boston Tea Party. Also forces Bostonians to house soldiers. Ships can't send supplies in to Boston. Outcome: Colonists help send supplies to Boston. -
Quebec Acts
Purpose: Sets the government for Quebec. Gives land west of the Appalachians and north of the Ohio River. Outcome: Colinists start calling these the Intolerable Acts.
