  • Introduction

    Introduction
In this timeline I will be talking about different jobs from the years of 1800-1867 such as: Blacksmiths, Shoemakers, Bakers, Farmers, Teachers, Carpenters, and Servants. In those years jobs were more difficult then those we have today, through the years we have had many changes. I will be telling you things such as the stuff they make to how much money they made per day. I hope you enjoy!

    JObs 1800-1867

  • Blacksmith 1800

    Blacksmith 1800
In the 18th century Blacksmith workers would make a living out of repairing things, and making tools. They built tools for women (household tools), tools for hunting (knives, gun parts, etc.), tools for other trades and industry, and many more things. Blacksmiths had to do this process: Forging, Drawing, Bending, Upsetting, Punching, Welding, and Finishing. Blacksmiths had the knowledge to repair many things. From weapons, to simple things like nails, Blacksmiths were very useful in the 1800's.
  • Shoemakers

    Shoemakers
In the mid 1800's shoemaking was very useful, without the technology's that we had today. Shoemakers used tools such as: Hammers, Nails, Needles, and Threads. Shoemakers would travel from door-to-door for house calls, fitting costumers for new shoes. Mens shoes would sell from 75 cents to $2.00 and womens shoes 37.5 cents to $2.00. Which would be one days pay, or more. As the years pass, the need for shoemakers decreased and now people go to stores and buy shoes that the factory's produce.
  • Bakers

    Bakers
Back then, bakers would wake up early to start the morning by baking fresh pastrys or breads for the day. Baking was different without the technologies we have like ovens. Baker's would use household fireplace's or bake right off of the coal or directly on the hearth. They made things such as: Biscuits, Cornbread, Brown Bread, and Johnnycakes (that are still made today). They also used things such as Lemon, Almonds, Coconuts, and Molasses to add flavour, and different ingredients to things.
  • Farmers

    Farmers
Farming was very hard compared to today because of the many hard tools they worked with (unlike tools today) and using horses to go through the fields (instead of trackers). Farmers had the average of a 50 acre piece of land. They had animals such as hogs, cows, sheeps, and chickens. They also didnt make as much money compared to Farmer's now where they can export food to all around the world but Farmers in the 1800's sold there food locally, because the town was there major supply center.
  • Teachers

    Teachers
Teaching is very different from the 21st century (it has changed). Now our teachers use technology's to teach us, and new ways off learning. Ex.: In certain subjects we will watch a video or movie to help us for a project/upcoming assignement. In the 1800's teachers were very strict and would smack you with a belt if you weren't quit! Also another method teachers would use is teach the older, and smarter students the lessons, to teach the younger, and not so smart students a lesson.
  • Carpenter

    Carpenter
In the 2000's we call it construction, but in the 1800's they called it Carpentry. Our systems are very different from back then. Carpenters didnt have the big machines, and electric drills that we have now but they had there tools. Carpenters would make the average $2.00 a day for there work. A good carpenter would take such joy of the quality of work, they took there time, and effort working inside and out to complete there work. This shows how much we've developed through time.
  • Domestic Servants

    Domestic Servants
Some people have butlers, and some people have cleaning lady's but in the 1800's they were servants. Some people would start at the ages of 7 years old, and most would be teenagers at the age of 14. They would do this if there were very poor. It was a better lifestyle for them were they have a clean place to live, clean clothing, and good food, but they still had to do there duties such as: Household services, taking care of a child, and cleaning/Household maintenance.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
