    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    It was the Great Charter approved by King John of England in 1215. It limited royal power and established certain rights of English freemen.
  • Petition of Right

    Petition of Right
    A petition presented to King Charles I to demand certain rights and liberties to be granted. The petition led to the civil war and complained of government breached against the people.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    Series of acts passed by the English Parliament. It limited the rights of the monarchy and ensured the superiority of Parliamnet.
  • Albany Plan of Urban

    Albany Plan of Urban
    It was proposal to create a unified government for the Thirteen Colonies, mentioned by Benjamin Franklin. Took place at the Albany Congress in July 1754 in Albany, New York, was a plan to unify the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Started as a riot between the poeple and the British because the British soldiers were seen as invading and unwelcomed. The British troops fired into a mob who were throwing snowballs and sticks, killing several people.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Display of defiance by the American colonists toward the British government when the British allowed it's people to sell tea directly to the colonists and cheated American merchants. This act was also an event leading into the Revolutionary War.

    Assembly of people from the thriteen colonies who governed during the Revolutionary War. The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia.

    Assembly of representativrs from the Thirteen Colonies. They met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania right after the American Revolution started.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Document written by Thomas Jefferson and heavily influenced by the ideas of John Locke. The document declared the United States as an independent nation.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    It was created as the first constitution of the United States, on November 15, 1777. It was an agreement between all thirteen states to establish the U.S. as a confederacy and was later replaced by the Constituion.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    An uprising of farmer's led by Daniel Shays in Massachusetts. Farmers protested the shutting down of farms and large debts after a war and ended up cutting off the court system for a short period.
  • Philadelphia Convention

    Philadelphia Convention
    Meeting of delegates from all states that began the Constitution of the United States. The meeting created a split government with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
  • Virginia Plan

    Virginia Plan
    Created by James Madison but presented by Edmund Randolph. Was the idea of having a strong central government with three different branches that include executive, legislative, and judicial.
  • New Jersey Plan

    New Jersey Plan
    An idea presented by William Paterson at the Constitutional Convention. His unsuccessful plan consisted of one legislative house with equal representation for each state.
