The Compromise of 1850 was a series of measure that were suppose to settle the argument between slave and free states. After President Taylor's death President Fillmore favored the compromise and it became a law. -
Millard Fillmore became president
Millard Fillmore was the 13th person to become president. He became persident after Persident Taylor got sick and died. Millard Fillmore was in favor of the Compromise of 1850 unlike Taylor. -
Fugitive Slave Law
The Fugitive Slave Law was a law that provided for harsh treatment for escaped slaves. It also provided harsh treament for those who helped or tired to help the slaves. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin was an anitslavery book. It talked about the life of slaves and how horrible it was for them. The author of the book was Harriet Beecher Stowe. -

Bleeding Kansas was a nickname that was given to Kansas becuase of all the violence that was there. -

The Republican Party was formed is 1854. It was a political party that opposed extending slavery. They didn't want anymore slavery in the territories. -

On May 21 Charles Sumner was attacked. He was attacked by Preston Brooks. It took Charles Sumner three years to recover. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was a former slave who tired to sue his owner when he was brought into a free state. Dred Scott Decision was when Chief Justice Roger B. Taney said that just because it was a free state doen't make him a free slave. -
John Brown Raided Harper’s Ferry
Harpers Ferry was an a fedral arsenal. John Brown raided it so he could give guns to the slaves. John Brown was a man against slavery. -
Lincoln's Election
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President. He was President during the Civil War. He felt that slavery was morally wrong and had to be stopped.
