In 1822 Smith sees in a local newspaper that a fur trapper named William Ashley was looking for hunters Jedediah and 99 other men go with Ashley. -
Scalped
Jedediah was with his group of men along the Cheyenne River where he was mauled by a grizzly bear scalping him and breaking a few ribs his men sew up his head moments after. -
South Pass
First to say the South Pass in the Rocky Mountains was able to have wagons pass through. -
Trailblazer
In 1826 he opened up trade between California and Oregon with 17 other men. -

In 1826 he led a voyage from the Colorado River to California being the first to enter California from the East. -
