Meiko, the first Japanese Vocaloid, is officially released to the market. She was created by the company of Crypton Future Media. Her voice bank was taken from Meiko Haigo, a Japanese singer. -

Hatsune Miku is Crypton Future Media's first version 2 vocaloid, and is voiced by Saki Fujita. After weeks at the market, her popularity increased so much that now she is the #1 artist in Japan with the most album copies sold and now she is considered an official icon and idol in Japan. She is the most popular of the Vocaloids. -
The Kagamine Twins are Released
The first vocaloid set of twins are officially released. Their names are Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len, and they are both voiced by the same person, Asami Shinoda. -
First Bilingual Vocaloid is Released
Megurine Luka, the fourth Japanese Version 2 Vocaloid, is released as a bilingual vocaloid, thanks to her voice actress, Yuu Asakawa, who speaks both Japanese and English. -

Gumi Megpoid was the lucky first V2 vocaloid to be updated into V3. Vocaloids that are originally V1 or V2 that are updated to V3 have better voice quality, clearer singing, and different images/ appereance. -
