  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    The Imperial Japanese Navy Air service conduct a surprise military attack on the US navy base at Pearl Harbor.
  • Executive Order 9066

    President Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066 which allows military authorities to go forth with the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese-Americans.
  • War Relocation Authority (WRA) is created

    Executive Order 9102 creates the WRA, the administrative office which oversaw the relocation of the Japanese-Americans.
  • First Inmates arrive at the Manzanar

    The first internees arrive at the Manzanar internment camp.
  • Roosevelt and Semantics

    President Roosevelt refers to the relocation centers as "concentration camps".
  • Japanese-Americans Go to War for America

    the 442nd Regimental Combat Team is made up of entirely Japanese-Americans who fight against Japan for America.

    The General of the Western Defense Command states, "that a Jap's a Jap, there is no way to determine their loyalty".
  • Internment Camps are Revoked

    The relocation orders are revoked.
  • All Camps are Closed

    The last camp at Tule Lake closes marking the end of the internment camps.
  • Civil Liberties Act 1988 Passes

    Congress and President Reagan sign the Act which apologizes for the internment and provides $20,000 reparation to the survivors.
