    1950s
    The decade of the 50s gave birth to Rock and Roll. The 50s music reflects on the post World War II optimism in America. Elvis Presley was a very famous singer. His first RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel” was released in January 1956, this was a hit song, among many others.
  • 1960s

    1960s
    There was a great growth of music during the 60s and the popularity of rock music increased. The Beatles were very famous all throughout the 60s. When the Beatles first came around they were instantly famous, and were known worldwide. They’re song “Twist and Shout,” was the number 1 most requested song in 1964. They were trendsetters.
  • 1970s

    1970s
    The 1970s saw the division of rock into different divisions beyond the general categories of hard rock and mellow rock. Disco became popular and rock blended with reggae, which came from Jamaica around 1972, and is a mix of rock, soul, and other rhythms. Other styles that came out of the 70s were punk rock, bubblegum music, and heavy metal rock. Led Zeppelin was very popular during this time. Their most famous song was "Stairway To Heaven."

    1980s
    The 1980s is known as the decade that style forgot because people would complain that there was no good music, but the 80s had lots of music come out. Pop music is what we really have to thank the 80s for. Michael Jackson was one of the most successful male pop and R&B artist of the 80s. His song "Thriller" was known worldwide and there was a dance that went along and became a craze.

    In the 1990s, music had gone through the rap and house revolution, totally changing the landscape of music. 90s music seemed to take a step back in rhythm, going from the rap revolution to the slower, romantic lyrics of late 90s bands, while also rising in alternative rock and a couple of attempts at bringing back 80s style of pop. Michael Bolton was famous with his "How am I Supposed to Live Without You," which he covered but was still very famous.

    2000s
    Electronic dance music became known everywhere. The beginning of this decade had a peak and decline of Boy bands and Girl groups. A boy band named "Backstreet Boys," was incredibly popular during this decade, "I Want it That Way" was a worldwide hit single which topped the charts during this decade.
