Pocahontas is captured by English settlers and held hostage in an attempt to recover settlers taken prisoner by Pocahontas' father, Powhatan. -
First Africans in Virginia
About 20 African servants were sent to the colony. These might have been the first Africans in Virginia. A 1620 census records 32 Africans in the colony. -
1648 Virginia Population
Virginia's population grew to have 15,000 whites and 300 Africans. -
1676 Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon and his followers attacked and burned Jamestown in an uprising. -
