The First Newspaper
Technology had developed enough to allow a daily Newspaper (the Times). People can now read about things that happened the day before and react to today. This was a big leap forward into improving the publics knowledge of current affairs. This also created the job of reporters. -
Telephone
The invention of the telephone enabled to people to communicate in real time ove long distances. However this was only available to commercial companies at the time. It helped the companies to speed things up such as the ordering of goods and communicating with each other. -
Home Telephone
This allowed the public to communicate with each other, however this was only if they could afford it and with it costing somewhere in the region of £2000 in todays money, only the rich could. -
Radio
The state government put up the transmitters meaning they owned the broadcasters. This was the first mass media transmitted directly into peoples home. This was very popular, Millions of people bought these. Hiitler used the radio to spread proper ganda around the German people. -
Television
This was incredibly powerful allowing the public to see visually what is happening and allows them to shape there own opinion. There are now over 24 million Televisions in the UK. The BBC moto is - Inform, Educate and Entertain. -
Internet
This was invented by the US millitary so that if one base was distroyed the others could still communicate. Still not available to the public -
First Mobile Phone
This thousands in modern day money so it was only available to the very rich, it also weighed 1KG. It allowed half an hour talk time and was only used by rich buisiness men -
Commercial Sky Satellite
Very high tech for the time, which allowed even more channels and allows live up links for News channel reporters to broadcast live from the scene for example war zones. there are now over 10 million subscribers. -
First Text Message
This is the now the most popular form of instant communication. In the Uk every week there are 1 billions text messgaes sent. -
Web 1.0
This now allows people to buy and sell things over the web and is available to everyone. It also allows people to search for information. -
3G mobile
This allows the sending and recieving of pictures and videos straight to mobile phones. Now any one can be a reporter filming things on their mobile as it happens. -
4G
This allows higher speed Internet access than the previous 3G. allowing people to have high speed internet on there mobile phones -
Web 2.0
This was the transformation of the internet from textbook to socail network I.E Myspace and Bebo -
Cable
TV widely available in the UK. Allows the FDR for the transmission of hundred of channels. This also lays the groundwork for broadband. This was a big leap for television. -
Web 3.0
Now the internet has become more of a tool that arranges things on your behalf. an example of this would be apples cloud where you can take picture on your mobile phone and they will automatically be tranferred to your account.
