Jadyn Zaffiri Act's Timeline

  • Act 1

    Purpose- To only allow the colonists to sell to England and to use English ships so England could pay what they wanted and charge as much as thye wanted.
    Outcome- Colonists became very angry because the ships were too expensive and the prices they were selling their goods at was too low, so they strted smuggling.
  • Act 2

    Act 2
    Purpose- To prevent fighting, Parliament set the Appalachian Mountains as the temporary western boundary.
    Outcome- colonists became angry because they had already bought land west of the mountains and Britain was ignoring their land claims. This made more conflicts arise.
  • Act 3

    Act 3
    Purpose- Lowered the tax on imported molasses, in hopes the colonists would actually pay the tax instead of smuggling. Also let officers seize goods from smugglers without going to court.
    Outcome- Beleived this violated their rights as english citizens.This act alarmed the colonists.
  • Act 4

    Act 4
    Purpose- Placed a tax on almost all printed materials including newspapers, wills, and playing cards.
    Outcome- Colonists were very angry because Parliament had interfered in their colonial affairs by directly taxing the colonists and taxing them without their consent.
  • Act 5

    Act 5
    Purpose- Stated that Britain had the right to tax and make descisions for the British colonies in all cases.
    Outcome- Not really any reaction from the colonists for a while.
  • Act 6

    Act 6
    Purpose- Taxed all imported objetcs including glass, tea, and paper.
    Outcome- Angered the colonists because they beleived only their own representatives should be able to tax them. The Daughters of Liberty was formed, which was a group of women who refused to buy British clothing and made their own.
  • Act 7

    Act 7
    Purpose- Allowed companies sole control of the tea trade for America. It let the companies sell tea directly to shopkeepers and hypass colonial merchants who usually distributed it.
    Outcome- Colonial merchants wanted to start a boycott on tea. Colonists vowed to stop the East India Company from unloading. The Daughters of Libery vowed to stop drinking it.
  • Act 8

    Purpose- Intended to punish the people of Massachusetts for resisting British laws. Closed the Boston Harbor until Massachussets paid for the ruined tea. Banned towned meetings in New England. Forced Bostonians to shelter soldiers in their own homes. Planned to isolate Boston.
    Oucome- Other colonies helped Massachusetts by sending food and clothing. They said this violated their rights as english citizens.
  • Act 9

    Act 9
    Purpose- Set up a government for Quebec. Gave Quebec the area west of the Appalachian Mountains and north of the ohi River. Ignored colonial claims to the river.
    Outcome- Colonists expressed their angry feelings in their names for the new laws- The Intolerable Acts.
